Walking with the Spirit - Wednesday, April 4th, 2007
“I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because he abides with you and will be in you.” - John 14:16-17
At the end of day, I love to look back and see how the day came together. At times, I wonder how it came to fruition, yet I know the Source of my steps. Some might think that I am crazy, but I don’t write a to-do list. I like lists, but I just don’t make time to write them down anymore. I go with the flow of the day. I know in my head what I have to do, and I pray that I can get it all done. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn’t. But the highlight of any day is when I know the Spirit has directed my thoughts and my steps into a direction that I hadn’t thought of. Case in point, my brother, his wife, and two kids are in town from Indiana. Because we live in an apartment and the conditions would be tight, my brother’s family has been staying in a nearby suburb with my sister and her family. So every day, the Martin clan makes a 45-minute trip to be with the family…usually at night. However, because the blue bonnets are out in full bloom, we all thought it would be a great photo opportunity (in the afternoon) for my two little girls, my brother’s two kids, and my sister’s three kids to take some pictures. So we dressed all the kiddos up in white and dropped them in the Texas traditional blue bonnets. It was quite a sight to see them smiling…for a little while that is. 7 little kids all under the age of 6!
Well, before the pictures were completed, I felt the Holy Spirit leading me to stop by the KCBI (90.9) radio station. We were only a 15 minute drive away from the station. Why not? I thought it was necessary to introduce myself to the individuals that I have been talking to over the phone and emailing over the past couple of weeks. What I thought was going to be a brief hello and good-bye, ended up turning into a wonderful time for me to further convey my heart for revival in this city. The radio station was even given a couple hundred posters and a thousand promotional cards for the upcoming 40-day tent revival. Even better, another meeting was scheduled for today with more individuals to further the station’s involvement for The Dallas Revival. And this was all because my family decided to take blue-bonnet pictures. Praise the Lord for the Holy Spirit’s prompting.
In John 14:16, Jesus Christ calls the Holy Spirit our Helper. Isn’t this the truth? The Holy Spirit (Greek word parakletos) means “one called alongside to help.” Think about it, when we need help in our daily lives, the Holy Spirit is present. The Holy Spirit is always with us. The Holy Spirit is willing to walk alongside us in this journey of faith. Even though this is an absolute truth hard to fathom and comprehend for the world, and for many believers, the Holy Spirit “abides with (us) and will be in (us).” We just need to recognize the Holy Spirit’s role in each of our lives. So ask yourself, do you listen to the Holy Spirit? Do you allow the Holy Spirit to be walking with you throughout the day? Do you allow a photography opportunity and use it further the message of Christ? The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:14, “”For all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.” Therefore, as children of God, my prayer for today is that we, the body of Christ in Dallas, allow the Holy Spirit to walk alongside our every thought and action.
