Let us SING! –Friday, March 30th, 2007
“Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.” - Colossians 3:16
Over the past two months, many people have been praying for the worship teams that will participate at the tent revival. Originally we started asking for 40 worship teams. Then we realized that we needed consistency. So the number drastically dropped to seven. All we needed was seven. We wanted one worship team to participate once a week. And slowly but surely the worship teams came ~ except for that seventh one. We went two weeks without hearing anything from the worship teams that we approached. The Lord was really trying my patience in this area of the tent-revival. I knew the Lord had someone in mind, but I wasn’t sure who. Well, finally He answered the many prayer requests for the seventh and remaining worship team.
A gentleman who originally came from New Orleans, began helping assist in worship at a church in Richardson. And through the word of mouth, his name came to me as someone that I should be in contact with. One thing led to another, and we had a great conversation in regards to his participation. I am thankful for his willingness and availability to help lead worship at the “tent of meeting.” Just from talking to him, he will fit right into the team of worship leaders we have already scheduled. He has heart for the Lord! And I must be honest, I am utterly relieved that this portion of the “planning” has come to a completion. We requested seven worship teams, and the Lord provided. It wasn’t according to our timeframe, yet He didn’t disappoint us.
Just look at the list of our worship teams. We are blessed to have such a great variety of worship leaders. We have an individual from England leading worship on Mondays. We have an African-American worship team on Tuesdays. We have two women worship leaders on Wednesdays and Fridays. We have a Hispanic couple leading worship on Saturdays (in Spanish and English). And we have a man whose heart for revival that is so contagious that it will spill over onto the tent on Sunday evenings. The Lord has brought such a beautiful picture of diversity to our worship leaders and teams. And this can only mean the variety of worship will be just as diverse. We will probably sing from the psalms “as found in the Old Testament, the ‘songbook’ of the early church as of Israel.” An example could be found in Psalm 33 that says:
Sing for joy in the Lord, O you righteous ones;
Praise is becoming to the upright. (v.1)
Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
Sing praises to Him with a harp of ten strings. (v.2)
Sing to Him a new song;
Play skillfully with a shout of joy…(v.3)
We will also sing from the hymns that are the “songs of the church that reflected the new truth in Christ.” Take for example the hymn found in 1 Timothy 3:16:
He who was revealed in the flesh,
Was vindicated in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Proclaimed among the nations,
Believed on in the world,
Taken up in glory.
Aside from the psalms and hymns, like the church of Colossae, I anticipate us singing spiritual songs. These simply may be other songs that give praise to the Lord in “a more special and artful (way) which were also in praise of God, but they were made fuller of music.”
Can you believe that we have all 7 worship teams? What a blessing from above? God is so good and faithful. For everyday of the week during the 40-day tent revival, we have a worship team that will help lead us as we worship our Father in Heaven. And just as the Apostle Paul wrote, as we collectively come under the TENT, may we always be the body of Christ "singing with thankfulness in (our) hearts to God.”
