Keep on Praying -Tuesday, March 20th, 2007

“Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17

With the security lights still illuminating the dark parking lot, I pulled out of the apartment complex yesterday morning with the intentions of praying at the TENT location. But before I could do so, I saw a tenant headed to the bus stop. I pulled out, picked him up and took him to work. It was good to catch up and see how he was doing. This wasn’t on my schedule. But I felt led by the Spirit to drive him downtown to one of the big buildings. As I was leaving, I saw a big sign that said PARKING. It was bright. It was bold. It stood out. So immediately I began to pray for our parking situation. In fact, I continued to drive up and down a street in which the proposed parking lots are location. I prayed over a certain lot. Then I prayed over another lot. I prayed over various other lots. The parking lots were on my heart, soul, and mind. I know ~ you are thinking, this guy is random and unusual because he is taking before the Lord concerns about concrete and yellow stripes. But without a doubt, I knew I needed to pray for the parking situation for the upcoming 40-day tent revival.

Two hours later, I received a call from an elder at our church, saying he was going to talk to someone of a prominent position that oversaw the parking lots on our behalf. Then another hour later, I got an email indicating an individual we had contacted last week had finally responded. It was a positive and encouraging email. Our logistical coordinator has been corresponding with them! This is the first time in weeks that we have received any form of feedback concerning their use of parking lots. No nothing has been officially approved, but I felt encouraged by the Lord providing a small glimpse of the possibility. God is good. Why share this? Because I believe there are certain things in life that we must continue to pray for. We mustn’t give up on praying. Or as the Apostle Paul wrote, “PRAY WITHOUT CEASING.” Even if we don’t see the results immediately, God is constantly teaching us the power of disciplined prayer. If it always came easy, then why would we rely on the Lord? In an email that I send out daily, I include specific prayer requests, and you can almost be assured that PARKING LOTS are a request. I feel like we have been praying for a location for cars to park since the beginning of the year. Let’s not stop praying for these parking lots because they haven’t been officially confirmed.

Regardless of the prayer requests, please present them before the Lord. Don’t carry the weight yourself. Give it over to the Lord. He will answer them in His own time and His own will. It might not be today. It might not be tomorrow. But we must continually pray before the Lord. Nonstop. When we are driving, let’s talk to God. When we are eating, let’s thank Him for the food. When we are with others, let’s rejoice in the name of the Lord. And please remember that whether we hear an “answer” from the Lord or not, in “everything give thanks, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
